Iwan

That sounds great. Yes, I could have saved some money there and been more creative. It was a bit of a cheat to splash out, particularly as I have far from exhausted the potential of my stability training equipment (a medicine and a Swiss ball). We'll be looking at non-mechanical/gym-based workouts in due course, so thanks for the pointer.

Tim

If only you'd given us a heads up about the gym-thing first, I could have told about a low(er) cost to a gym. Me and a few pals work out with ad-hoc equipment based on some ideas from Ross Enamit (see Never Gymless - http://www.rosstraining.com/articles.html), and thus inspired will drag old, weighted, suitcases tethered to an old school ropes, do lifts with duffle bags containing zip-lock bags of sand and pull-ups on the goal posts of the local school.

We're in our 40's and were looking for functional workouts. These routines, together with some poached from Crossfit.com, hit the spot. As an added bonus, they are extremely portable and can be done almost anywhere in the world. We've tested.

You'll never want to work-out in a David Lloyd gym again!
