Gigerenzer London talk Sep 23
If you’re in London and interested in decision making, decide to be free the evening of September 23rd.
Gerd Gigerenzer, one of the world’s leading heuristics gurus and Director of the Center for Adaptive Behavior and Cognition at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, will be opening the season at the Economics and Business Decision Making Seminar Series.
I’ve mentioned Gigerenzer several times before, and reviewed Gut Feelings about this time last year when it came out. Gigerenzer, in a nutshell, is less pessimistic than some about our apparent irrationality when making decisions under conditions of uncertainty; he often draws rather different conclusions than the Kahnemann/Tversky school when interpreting apparent cognitive failure in things like framing effects.
Run by Dan Goldstein of London Business School and Lionel Page at Westminster Business School, these talks are something I consider to be a very important thing. I try to go to as many as I can. If you’re around London and want a regular dose of this area of science, and to meet the practitioners, it’s a good “club” to join.
